Basset hound in a wheelchair

Since yesterday was all about me talking about my story of how I became such a special dog with special needs, I thought today would be a good time to show you what my wheels look like.  They are pretty terrific.  I try to take them for a spin as often as I can.  Lately, it's been raining cats and dogs out so I've had to stay inside.  Hopefully, this weekend will be a lot nicer.  Wishful thinking but I am all about being positive.

I am howling at my mom in this photo.  She wanted me to go in the backyard after my walk with my buddy Ben, but I didn't want to.  I protest a lot when I don't get my way. I don't mean to put up a fuss, but I am very stubborn.  I think that it comes from my dad's side of the family.  Well, enough about that.  What do you think of my wheels?  I like them.  I finally got the hang of it.  I can even back up and change direction now when I have them on. It's pretty awesome.

Well, I have to go.  My mom is about ready to go to work.  Take care everyone.

Love, Winston.

  1. Thank you so much for posting such positive posts! I am a Basset too! My name is Eeyore because my grandmother said I look like Winnie the Pooh's friend Eeyore. My dad use to work for an animal center and I came in there one day covered with fleas and so starved down you could see my ribs and spine. So, since they already had one Basset, they decided to "foster" me. Whatever that means! Well, it wasn't long before they asked if I wanted to stay here permanently. I was so happy because they fed me and loved on me and got me all cleaned up! Well, now I am about 6 or so years old and have been told I have Degenerative Disc Disease and that is causing some paralysis in my rear legs. Which, as you know, makes it hard to get around! I am facing a wheelchair and am scared of it, but you made me feel so much better about it. Thank you! It's nice to see you can have a full and happy life that way! Thanks for the positive outlook on things! Keep it up! I will be checking back in later!

  2. What kind of wheelchair did you purchase for Winston? We have three bassets, and newest little girl (we have had her less than three weeks) is at least 11 years old, with no teeth, and having trouble with her back legs. She is petite, only 40 pounds, but I like the look of Winston's wheels. Thank you!
